The Guild of Florida Grand Opera
Since 1987, the Guild has developed new audiences, raised vital funds, and promoted community awareness throughout Miami-Dade County as one of the major volunteer supporting corps for the Florida Grand Opera. In addition to presenting exciting events such as the annual Summer Opera Festival, annual Holiday Party for the Young Artists, and this season’s multi-media presentation on Wagner’s Ring Cycle, Guild members plan lectures designed to immerse members in the operatic art form, assist FGO with its outstanding education and community outreach programs, provide invaluable event assistance, and act as ambassadors throughout South Florida. Crescendo Circle (Young Professionals Group)
The Crescendo Circle identifies, recruits, educates and engages young professionals, ages 25 to 45, who will gradually increase their interest, knowledge and commitment to FGO. Crescendo Circle Board members may become candidates for future Florida Grand Opera leadership roles. Events include social and networking activities for the purpose of educating its members about opera, both as an art form and as a business. Young Patronesses of the Opera
Since 1956, the Young Patronesses of the Opera’s (YPO) has been offering expansive education programs include: a fully staged In-School Opera for elementary school children; Girl Scout Workshops, which enable young scouts to earn an Opera Patch; and a Teacher Workshop that prepares more than 1,000 South Florida teachers each year to include opera in the classroom and offers continuing education credits. In addition, the YPO is nationally recognized for its Voice Competition and its “Opera Funtime” publication, which tells the story of an opera by using illustrations, poetry, puzzles and a short musical score.
