YOUNG ARTIST STUDIO -- Frequently Asked Questions

2007-08 FGO/GO Joint Young Artists Auditions

Q: Why should I send my audition application to Glimmerglass Opera when I only want to audition for Florida Grand Opera?
A: As part of the collaborative effort of these joint auditions, both companies have agreed that Glimmerglass Opera will act as the "processing headquarters" to which all applications are sent. After all applications have been processed at Glimmerglass, those applications which request only a Florida Grand Opera audition will be sent along with the materials to Florida Grand Opera.

Q: Does it cost me any more to apply to both companies rather than just one?
A: No. The non-refundable application fee is $30 regardless of whether you apply to audition for either Glimmerglass Opera, Florida Grand Opera, or both. If you are selected for an audition, this fee includes a pianist at no extra charge.

Q: What if I would like to bring my own pianist?
A: Any auditionee may bring his/her own accompanist at no extra cost. There will be no reduction in the application fee should you bring your own pianist.

Q: Who should I make my check out to?
A: All checks should be made payable to Glimmerglass Opera Inc.

Q: Do I need to submit two headshots and two recordings if I'm auditioning for both companies?
A: You need only submit ONE recording, but you must submit TWO headshots. All other application materials will be photocopied in house by Glimmerglass Opera and mailed to Florida Grand Opera should you apply to both companies.

Q: How do I know if I've been granted an audition?
A: A complete list of all Young Artists who have been selected for audition will appear on both companies' websites by October 12, 2006.

Q: What if I'd like to audition for both companies, but I would normally offer completely different repertoire if I were auditioning for each company separately?
A: The panelists at the auditions understand the fact that auditionees may wish to sing different repertoire for each company and will choose to hear pieces that will afford panelists from each company the opportunity to hear and see what they need.

Q: When will I be notified that I have been accepted into either or both programs?
A: Glimmerglass Opera will make contact with successful candidates in late November. Florida Grand Opera will make contact at that time with artists they wish to hear in the audition finals, for which FGO brings a limited number of singers to Miami.

Q: Who should I contact if I would like to request that my audition date or time be changed?
A: All concerns or questions regarding the scheduling of ALL auditions should be directed to Jerry Tietz, Assistant to the Director of Artistic Operations at Glimmerglass Opera. 607.547.5704 x227 or JTietz@glimmerglass.org.

Q: Do I have to be a United States citizen to be considered for either young artist program?
A: All auditionees must either be a United States citizen OR have the right to work in the United States. All non-U.S. citizens must send a photocopy of documentary proof of the right to work in the United States.

Q: What if I am a returning Florida Grand or Glimmerglass Young Artist? Do I still need to pay an application fee for my audition?
A: If you are a returning alumnus of EITHER company's program the application fee is waived.
