Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Statement

Florida Grand Opera stands in solidarity with all who speak out against discriminatory injustice and is committed to fostering equity in the operatic art form. We are dedicated to building, nurturing, and sustaining a company that reflects, celebrates, and serves the diverse communities of both Broward and Miami-Dade counties in South Florida.

We will continue to pave the way and give voices to all people. We cherish the diversity of humanity, a diversity that includes differences in sex, age, race, ethnicity, and national origin, range of abilities, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, financial means, education, and political perspective.

We will fight for their right to be a leading presence within the operatic art form. The arts are meant to unite and heal, not divide. Here are some of the ways we are continuing to build and implement equity, diversity, and inclusion at our company:
• Florida Grand Opera has formed an EDI committee consisting of members of our staff, board, and community leaders. This committee meets regularly to discuss how we can continue to represent our underserved communities.

• Florida Grand Opera continues to cast color blind as it has done in its 80 years of performing in both Broward and Miami-Dade counties in South Florida.

• Florida Grand Opera continues to expand artistic and community-engagement programming to be socially relevant to today is audiences and at times, offer themes that confront the current state of affairs within our society.

• Since 2013, Florida Grand Opera has programmed an opera as part of our “Made for Miami” and “Built for Broward” series that celebrates one of South Florida is many diverse populations. In conjunction with this opera, FGO presents a series of Community Conversations to create thought-provoking discussions that connect the operatic art form to sociopolitical topics.

• Florida Grand Opera continues to engage different communities by holding events in alternate venues not usually exposed to opera, making our art form more accessible to a wider range of individuals.
